This is the first official BlackFire 2.0 Pre-Release. It is still pre-alpha and there are some things missing that you can find in Blackfire 1.6, however basic functionality like chatting and detecting games is there for 100% .

@but2002 could you send me the crash report? its very likely that I fixed the crash by now ( made a stupid mistake somewhere in the Xfire library ).

There haven't been any updates on BlackFire lately, this news post will explain why.
I started BlackFire way back in the day when I was 16 years old, I just came from the web development scene and did not know a lot about application development. Because of this, the some parts of BlackFire 1.6 are still messy.
I decided to clean up this mess, by re-thinking every core component of BlackFire and build a new house for it, BlackFire 2.0. Currently BlackFire 2.0 has not even reached the Alpha stage yet, but will do that soon.

So, what is new in BlackFire2.0? Not that much actually, most things will just be refined and improved, while others will be left out completely. Some features in BlackFire1.6 are just completely useless and will therefore be removed. On release it will not feature ingame, however if the people that currently are having issues with ingame will contact me, I will try to develop a new and hopefully much more stable version of ingame. I currently do not see why I would continue supporting ingame in the client if it is so unstable.
BlackFire2 will also come with a system to fund further development of the project. Now before you get scared or want to write an angry comment, it is NOT a banner ad. Every 1 out of 4 links in BlackFire that are clickable will be supported by an ad; in other words, when you click on it you will go to a page that will redirect you to the actual link within 10 seconds. This also has a max of 3 per runtime, so it will not be annoying for you, the end user, at all. I am still not very sure about this system and that is why I am looking for people that want to give it a shot, giving me feedback on how annoying it actually is.

Downgrading your iDevice to iOS 4 from 5
1) Turn off your device
2) Launch iTunes
3) Connect your iDevice ( keep it turned off )
4) Hold the power and home button for 10 seconds
5) Release the power button, keep holding the home button
6) Release the home button when iTunes says "iPhone/iPod/iPad detected in recovery mode"
7) Press restore
8) Grab a cookie, because you're done.

You cannot downgrade if your iDevice gives you the "connect to itunes" icon when you turn it on.
You cannot downgrade with Xcode.

Showing friend nicknames
It can happen that you have "show usernames" on by default if you install version 1.5 ( latest )
To see the nicknames of your friends again, go to the view menu and click on "show nicknames".
If you do not see a change immediately then scroll for a bit, and you will see magic happen.

A taste of Mac OS X Lion and BlackFire
I have spent quite some time developing 1.5, the next major release of BlackFire.
So I thought I'd share a new thing I have been working on:
There are still a lot of work I have to do before I see this version as ready, chatrooms are currently almost unusable and there is no way of changing the chat style yet.
The interface cleanups I wanted to do are almost finished and the new games list is awesome!

No this isn't Lion only, it still works with Leopard and Snow Leopard. This version will be released as soon as enough people have tested it.

Keep in mind that it will grow very fast, as the tracking just started a few minutes ago.
You're usernames are stored in the database in such a way that no one will ever be able to find out what it was, so your privacy is not violated with this "tracking" at all.
